This Chick Bakes on Rachel Ray

WOW!
That's all I have to say about it! We've been marketing our sweet little tails off for years but nothing else works quite like a national televised plug from one of the most popular foodies around! We are so grateful to the Rachael Ray staff for digging our stuff enough to put us on the air.
Until the next big hoorah....happy Holiday season everyone. It's on!!! I'm ready to get your gifts ready and on their way to all your friends and family.

Be well,

Jen

Dad's Birthday!

So, I've never made a Birthday cake for my dad....I know, I know! For that matter, I've never made a birthday cake for anyone in my family since they are all 2000 mi. and I never see them and when I DO see them it's only for a minute or so. There's never been time to make a cake of all things. They've never really been around me as a baker.....I moved away from home over 20 years ago. Need I say more. It didn't even occur to me until this year, well, this month as we made our plans to head back to Arizona for his 79th birthday party and family reunion. See, he's got Alzheimer's disease and it's getting worse so now we're all trying much harder to cram in some meaningful time in with him before he doesn't really know who we are any longer. Of course, I realize we're doing it as much for ourselves as we are for him. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter.....we're scattered all over the Pacific Northwest, Ca, Az., and New York and it's criminal that we (the kids) never get to see each other. Ah, life....sweet life. So anyway, this was a special birthday for him and I wanted to do a very special cake for him and bring a little sunshine into his confusing world.
I think it was a success....I baked it in NYC, overnighted it to Az, and decorated it just before the party. He loved it...everyone loved it and I felt so happy to have made him smile and begging for seconds. Even if he doesn't remember it for very long, I'll always remember the look on his face when he saw the cake. I love you dad....

WOW! Spring....

Welcome to the first official blog of THIS CHICK BAKES...yeah, well of course I've been un officially blogging for years for heaven's sake it's my gosh darn company, so most of the time I talk of little else. So, here goes!

For anyone who doesn't know us we're a cookie, cupcake, gift, and special occasion bakery in New York City. We began about six years ago under the name PMS Kookie Kompany....yup, that's pms as in pms kids. I know, I know...we got a lot of flack for it but at the time it seemed like a good idea. I loved it! I loved it that someone was actually calling a spade a spade. I mean, I don't know about some of you gals but I get wicked, wicked pms cravings! I'd do crazy stuff like wake up at 3:00 AM and make myself a peanut butter, chocolate chip and honey sandwich. That's not so crazy, right? So, anyway, the company was born out of my need to express the ravenous intense sugar, nutty, gooey cravings I was experiencing. Alas, here we are years later re-branding ourselves with a more user friendly and less gender specific product.

Our stuff is truly amazing and we are constantly striving to become better and better at what we do. We have our cookies, cupcakes and amazing vegan cookies in some of the most fantastic coffee houses in NYC and Brooklyn. Charley and I are both incredible coffee hounds so it's really and honor to be affiliated with places like Joe the Art of Coffee, Irving Farms, Coffee Labs Roasters, Variety Cafe, Gimme Coffee, and Cafe Angelique just to name a few. I've also been hard at work creating the very best gluten free stuff I can conjure.

I would absolutely love to hear from you guys....I want to hear about your cravings, your pms stories and what you'd like to see on our site.

Well, that's if for now...

Peace y'all, and be well.

Jen Houston
